Personally, I'd bleed your existing brakes, because if you're going to install new ones, you have to cut the hose to length and get the air out of the system, which you can sometimes fake, but might need to bleed.įWIW: I always use two syringes as it give me more control and options in pushing/drawing fluid.

I do find the bleeding edge fittings at the caliper be a easier to use and more convenient, but I wouldn't base my decision on that alone.

Calipers where your remove a set screw plug and thread in a fitting work great, as long as you know how to prevent air from getting in when you remove the fitting and replace the plug, which is easy enough to do. Calipers where you need to push a hose over a nipple tend to be the most problematic, especially those where you have to turn the nipple to open and close it rather than have a separate screw.

The main difference comes down to the fittings. I have no aversion to or had any problems working with DOT fluid in my motor vehicles or bikes. The basic principals and what needs to be achieved are all the same. I've bled many brakes and don't really find much difference.
